Welcome to Grotto Figini

General Info

Tucked away in the scenic hills of southern Switzerland, Grotto Figini is one of those places that feels discovered rather than visited. Located at Via ai Grotti 17, 6925 Collina d'Oro, this restaurant blends local tradition with a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy every bite.

From the moment you arrive, the setting sets the tone. The outdoor seating is a real highlight, especially on warm evenings when dinner stretches into long conversations over a glass of vino. The surroundings feel authentic and lived-in, not staged, which adds to the overall experience. It’s the kind of place where dine-in meals feel personal and unhurried, whether you’re stopping by for a casual dinner or sharing small plates with friends.

The menu leans confidently into classic flavors, and it shows. The antipasto is a perfect way to start-simple, well-balanced, and clearly prepared with care. As dishes arrive, the focus on hearty, satisfying food becomes even more apparent. The costine are rich and comforting, paired naturally with patate that soak up every bit of flavor. These plates don’t try to impress with complexity; instead, they win you over with honesty and depth.

One of the standout moments at Grotto Figini is the bistecca fiorentina. It’s served with confidence, cooked to let the quality of the meat speak for itself. Enjoying it alongside a thoughtfully selected vino feels less like a meal and more like a shared ritual, especially during dinner service when the restaurant hums with quiet energy.

Service is straightforward and smooth, which adds to the comfort factor. Practical touches like debit card payments make things easy, while the option to enjoy small plates means you can tailor your experience without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Everything feels intentional, from how the food is served to how the space is used.

Across reviews, the restaurant is often described as consistent and genuine, and that impression holds up when you’re there in person. Grotto Figini doesn’t rely on trends or flashy presentation. Instead, it offers a grounded dining experience rooted in place, flavor, and atmosphere. Among restaurants in this location, it stands out by staying true to what it does best-good food, shared moments, and a setting that feels effortlessly real.

What customers say?

“ We had a lovelly time there. Service is great and polite. It was plesure to simply sit there, drink good house wine and don't worry. Bows for grill-service guy for his tallent. Verry good value for money. Tip 1: one side dish is enough ;) Tip2: wear long sleves and trousers, cause there is lots of moskitos in the garden. However crew provided us with repelents and special candels, so it was ok after that. ”

“ Great ambiance, delicious food and super nice staff - we would go back tomorrow but it is closed on Wednesdays --- highly recommended ”

“ Cute area of Lugano, with some original grotto-style restaurants (though they have since expanded from their grotto origins and the dining area isn't actually in a grotto). Had some fresh pasta with a creamy topping, and wife had some even tastier pasta with pesto (can't remember all the names!) But among our party of eight, four people had the beef ribs - 'costine' - which were made in an open fire grill. My aunt let me try a piece - man, I should have ordered them, they were amazing! ”

“ Grotto Figini is an absolute gem! We chose it for the celebration of our anniversary and had an amazing dinner there. The place is on the outskirts of a beautiful forest. We enjoyed the game meats! The staff was hospitable and spoke very good English as well. :) Highly recommended! ”

“ If you are in Lugano, this is a MUST!! The waiter explained us the whole menu as we did not understand Italian and gave us great recommendations. I have visited over 120 European restaurants in the last year, never have I had a better Antipasti before Thank you for an attentive service, amazing food and a super local ambience! We will come back! ”
